Dear Internet. We need to talk.
Oh, sweet Internet, bringer of cat videos, enabler of collaboration, source of near-infinite knowledge. You bring us many gifts.
You empower us to learn and grow. You enable us to connect and exchange information with people across the world. You put all the entertainment we could wish for at our fingertips. How could we not love you?
But, dear Internet, you’re strangely addictive. There’s always one more video to watch. One more podcast to listen to. One more swipe to make. While you’re up and running, it’s hard to put you down.
You have an unhealthy appetite for electricity. You’re a driver of climate change. If you were a country, you’d be the 6th largest polluter in the world. It seems you bring both joy and doom. Dear Internet… are we really friends?
Don’t worry, it’s not your fault. You are what we made you. To change you, we first need to change the way we think. We need to embrace sustainability and regeneration, so we can create a web that’s good for people and the planet.
We must take responsibility for our actions.
We will make you better.
We will shape a greener internet.
For you, for us, for the planet.
Because who will, if not us?
